Harrolds, Australia’s family owned luxury department store with shops throughout Australia has upgraded its customer experience by launching its first eCommerce platform to enable customers to continue shopping, while keeping safe at home.

There is strong evidence that COVID-19 may have moved the shift to eCommerce by five years in the space of just a few months. Whilst people are looking at the sales and customer behaviour when saying this, there were lots of other changes around how retailers responded that are worth considering too.

With COVID-19, retailers are confronted with store closures and consumers being told to stay at home.
Even though what retailers are facing today (with store closures) is unprecedented, history has proven, when businesses effectively manage themselves in a crisis, they set themselves up for long term growth.

We are in a period of unprecedented and rapid change brought about by COVID-19. The retail landscape is unrecognisable to what it was just a few weeks ago. Entire sections of the economy are being closed down in the interest of public safety and people are being urged to stay at home. The challenge for retail is without precedent. This has prompted many of our clients to ask us "should I close down my eCommerce site?".
The quick answer is "no".
